Marc and Sara are both members of the Gustavus Athletics Hall of Fame members. Their son, Conner, is a 2013 graduate of Gustavus where he played tennis.
We participated in volleyball, football, basketball, tennis and baseball. As an important part our college experience, we know that the life lessons learned from playing Gustavus athletics are possible and improved by the financial support of our donors. How would you describe your athletic experience at Gustavus?
My athletic experience at Gustavus was unforgettable and one I look back on often with fond memories. I often wish I could go back and recreate those four years. As a current college coach I try to get my athletes to understand how quickly the college athlete (eligibility) clock expires. The time goes by so quickly it’s important to try to find enjoyment in every moment. As an athlete at Gustavus I learned so many valuable lessons about how to be a leader and teammate. Problem solving, determination, organization and perseverance are a few qualities I gained from my time as an athlete. The memories and friendships I built with my teammates, coaching staff, and administration have created a great support system and are relationships that will last a lifetime.
What inspires you to financially support Gustie athletics?
I understand that financial support from alumnae and other donors is crucial to the success of athletic programs and teams. I value the positive impact the Gustavus athletic program had on my life and I want to be a part of helping create that experience for current and future Gustie athletes.
How would you encourage others to give to Gustie athletics?
I would challenge alumni to think about the value Gustavus brought to their lives. Donors helped make that experience possible and it is our duty as alum to help create those experiences for others. Small donations from a large number can make a great difference.
